Mayan Café Banana Churros recipe | Secrets of Louisville Chefs series


Serves 4:
2 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup half and half
1 tsp baking powder
1 pinch cinnamon
2 bananas
Cooking oil
½ lb pistachios, ground
½ cup honey
chocolate sauce
ice cream


  1. Beat 2 eggs in a bowl.
  2. Add flour, baking powder and cinnamon
  3. Add half and half slowly, stirring with wisk….batter will thicken.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Cut each banana in 4 pieces.
  6. Dip the pieces in the batter with tongs.
  7. Deep fry banana pieces in oil until golden brown.
  8. Dry banana pieces with paper towel.
  9. Dip banana pieces lightly in honey.
  10. Roll pieces in pistachios.
  11. Put two pieces on each plate.
  12. Add ice cream of choice and drizzle with chocolate sauce.
